Equality, diversity & inclusion
York Women's Counselling Service is an inclusive and supportive organisation. We provide one to one counselling to women in York who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties, when they need it, for as long as they need it and regardless of their financial circumstances.
We welcome all women, and are committed to ensuring everybody who comes into contact with our organisation is treated fairly and equally, whatever their background or individual circumstances.
What is equality?
Equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights and opportunity. Practically, this means ensuring all women in the York area have an equal opportunity to access the services provided by York Women's Counselling Service.
What is diversity?
Diversity is understanding that each woman is unique and recognising our individual differences. For YWCS, this means being receptive to the needs of all women in our community.
What is inclusion?
Inclusion is a basic right and its objective should be to embrace everyone regardless of individual differences. For YWCS, this means creating a welcoming and friendly environment for all women and ensuring that our service can be easily accessed.
Transgender women
YWCS is a service provided for all women. As such, transgender women are welcome to access our service. In situations where we are unable to meet an individual woman’s support needs we will signpost transgender women onto the most suitable of alternative organisations.
