Our therapists

Our work wouldn’t be possible without our team of volunteer counsellors and therapists.

I remember the joy I felt when I was offered a student placement with York Women’s back in 2020, and as I write this, I still feel that same feeling of warmth. Since then, I have qualified and aswell as working as a Volunteer counsellor for York Women’s, I work as a Counsellor in Private Practice. I love this combination, as it enables me to be able to support and empower other women regardless of their ability to pay.

I love walking in nature as I find it very mindful, and it enables me to feel grounded and able to provide that safe space for other women to be truly heard.

There is honestly no job I would rather do than being a Counsellor.

I did my counselling and psychotherapy training placement with York Women's Counselling Service - and I'm still here years later as a qualified therapist because it is a wonderful feeling to be part of such a special team supporting women in the local community.

I'm originally from Sunderland, and I'm a proudly unusual Mackem, because I know very little about football! I prefer being outside enjoying nature with my son and our dog, or at home doing something crafty like bookbinding - which I enjoy in calm quiet time, just for me.

I have been part of York Women’s Counselling since February 2020 as a counsellor and love working as part of a warm, supportive and like-minded team. I find the role really fulfilling, and knowing that I am trusted with precious stories is a real privilege.

I also wear another hat - I’m the Operations Manager with responsibilities for income generation, among other things. It’s really rewarding helping to bring money in to the organisation, and then being on the other side seeing the life-changing work we, the therapists, deliver to women who need our help.

I also work as a counsellor in private practice. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, skiing and getting out into nature with my dog.

I joined York Women’s Counselling in Sept 2020. Since then I have been able to support many clients both online, during the Covid lockdowns, and in person in our counselling rooms in Priory Street. I am a trainee relational integrative psychotherapist and I really enjoy being part of our team of women supporting women.

I have benefitted hugely from my own therapy and want to be able to offer that therapeutic relationship to others. I also see clients in private practice. I walk with my spaniel Luna in all weathers, accompanied by clouds, flowers, trees and also the sky, which I have come to understand is always there, no matter what else is happening.

I joined York Women's Counselling in January 2023.

The values of YWC are close to my heart. I believe it's vital that counselling is made affordable and accessible to those who need it.

To unwind, I love reading as well as climbing and hiking.

I feel so fortunate to have completed some of my psychotherapy placement hours with York Women's Counselling. The organisation offers a supportive, responsive, non-judgemental and low cost alternative for women in York. As a counsellor it is wonderful to be part of a team of supportive colleagues, who all share their different skills, which is why I continue to enjoy working here now that I am qualified as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. My training was in Transactional Analysis and I work in an integrative way using TA concepts alongside other humanistic approaches.

I also work in private practice with clients, face to face, in the outdoors and online.

When I'm not working I love spending time with my grandsons, being outdoors, reading, and have recently found a love of writing as a mindful and therapeutic activity.

I have been part of York Women's Counselling team since January 2016, like many of our volunteers, I became involved when I needed a trainee counsellor placement. It's a privilege to stand alongside clients, supporting them to explore their psychological distress and help them to lead a more fulfilling life. In my practice, I place particular emphasis on the therapeutic relationship so my clients feel safe, respected and heard.

I am extremely proud to volunteer alongside and learn from our team of skilled counsellors, we are a community of women supporting women, which I value greatly, both in my therapeutic work and with my own wellbeing.

As well as volunteering and working part-time as the service's Counselling Manager, I have my own private counselling practice. In my spare time, I am an avid crafter and I love to be out and about with friends, enjoying a meal or exploring the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

I joined YWCS back in 2019 in order to provide much needed support to the women of York.

It is a privilege to help a charity the puts it's clients right at the heart of everything it does.

I am a very down to earth counsellor who believes in empowering women to feel that their voices and stories matter.

To compliment my role, I enjoy reading and spending time walking and exploring nature.

I joined York Women's in 2023, Social justice is really important to me and I love that York Women's believe that cost should not be a barrier to accessing good quality therapy. I really value being part of such a welcoming and supportive community of women.

As well as volunteering with York Womens, I am a researcher, working alongside marginalised communities and work as a pyschotherapist in private practice. Away from work I love to walk with my dog, play the piano badly and catch up with friends.

Anna

I have been with York Women's Counselling Service since the end of 2023 and love the kind and caring culture of women supporting women at the heart of YWC. I appreciate being part of an organisation which offers access to low cost counselling, enabling more women to access the help and support they need.

I am an integrative relational psychotherapist in advanced training, and I believe that we can overcome challenges and difficulties in supportive, non-judgemental relationships which allows us to be with our feelings and acknowledge our experiences.

I like wild swimming, dancing and napping in front of the telly.

I joined York Women’s Counselling in August 2024 as a volunteer psychotherapist / EMDR therapist. I am passionate about helping people heal from trauma and empowering people to make positive change in their lives. I am proud to volunteer for an organization run by women to support women.

I qualified with an MA in Art Psychotherapy Practice in 2011, and since then I have worked mainly with children and adults who have been impacted by complex trauma.

I am currently practicing EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which uses eye movement and bi-lateral tapping to help process difficult memories, thoughts and feelings.

I spend my spare time making art, walking in the countryside and lounging with my cat, Bertie! I find these really beneficial to my own well-being.
