Challenge 20/20/20 for York Women’s Counselling.
To mark York Women’s Counselling Service’s 20th anniversary, 20 York women have decided to run 20km on 11th October. The challenge – which they’ve called Challenge20/20/20 – has been organised to raise money for the charity which has suffered financially due to COVID. Counselling volunteer, Charlotte, who has organised the event explained how it came about:
“I’ve been involved with YWC since the beginning of the year, and see first hand the amazing work it does for women who are experiencing psychological trauma. All the therapists are volunteers – they give their time and expertise free of charge, which means we don’t have to charge the women for therapy, we simply ask for an affordable donation. Because of this, women with financial worries can still get professional support. COVID has hit the charity hard, at a time when more women are seeking help with feelings of anxiety, depression and domestic abuse.
I run regularly, and once I put the word out that I wanted to do this challenge, it wasn’t hard to find 19 other women who were willing to join me. We’re all busy training now, and will get together on 11th October to run 20km. It’s a fantastic example of women coming together to support other women.”
A fundraising page has been set up www.justgiving.com/challenge202020
In fact, we’re delighted that more women have come forward wishing to take part and run 20km, in fact we have 22 ladies now!
Thank you for sharing and supporting this great group of women.
