A Community of Women Helping Women

The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (12-18 May), is community… and community is at the heart of what we do.

YWCS is a community of women who share a commitment to offering a high-quality counselling service to other women within the York community.

But we don’t just do this for one week: our amazing volunteers spend every week helping women who see our services as essential to their mental health and wellbeing. Mental ill health can leave people isolated and lonely, but the women we help benefit from feeling part of our community.

We are a community of women supporting other women with their mental health

Our network of counsellors is growing and some are bringing new methods to our services, with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) - a clinically proven psychotherapy technique using eye movement to help process distressing memories - being offered to women who have experienced trauma.

Every day next week we will be posting the main reasons why community is so important for mental health, so make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

These are difficult times for women and our services are always oversubscribed. You can help us to provide much-needed additional support, and make a big difference to women in York and their families. Please consider donating to York Women’s Counselling to help us now. A one-off donation or a small regular gift, whatever feels right for you. Thank you so much
