Support Survivors and Empower Change with YWCS
One quarter of the women we currently support have experienced sexual assault and/or sexual violence. And latest figures from North Yorkshire Police show that in the year to September 2024 more than 2,000 rape and sexual offences were reported.
This Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, we want to share with you how we protect our clients from harm.
We have a dedicated Safeguarding Team in place to react to any potential wellbeing risks that might be identified during the counselling sessions we offer.
To enhance our counselling further, we are also developing a specialist trauma service to help women heal from the symptoms and emotional distress resulting from life-changing events such as sexual violence and abuse. The trauma service will see some counsellors trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a clinically proven psychotherapy technique using eye movement to help process distressing memories.
These are difficult times for women and our services are always oversubscribed. You can help us to provide much-needed additional support, and make a big difference to women in York and their families. Please consider donating to York Women’s Counselling to help us now. A one-off donation or a small regular gift, whatever feels right for you. Thank you so much
