Laura’s York 10K Challenge for YWCS

YWCS depends on the fundraising efforts of our amazing community. We’re thrilled that our supporter, Laura, has chosen to raise money for us when she takes part in the York 10K on 2 August.

Here’s abit about Laura, where she shares her story, her connection to running and why she feels it’s so important to support YWCS.

Can you share a little bit about you?

I run a business focused on building women’s confidence through personal training and styling.

I’m running the York 10K to raise money for York Women’s Counselling, who provide vital support to women locally.

Having been in that situation myself in the past, I know how important it is to have access to the right support. There is help out there, and you don’t have to go through it alone.

What inspired you to start running, and what motivates you to keep going?

I’ve been running for years, and my very first group run was the Burn Valley Run when I was just 10 years old. Running has always given me a real sense of freedom and clarity. I love being outdoors, taking in the sights of York, and when I lived near the South Coast, there was nothing better than running along the beach.

What keeps me motivated is the community side of running. I run with an amazing women’s running group, Run With It, and TGR Run Group, where I’m proud to be an ambassador helping encourage women to run together and feel safe while doing so. When I moved to York three years ago, running became such an important way for me to meet people, make friendships, and get to know the city.

How did you first become involved with York Women’s Counselling Service, and why did you choose to support us?

Supporting York Women’s Counselling Service is something very close to my heart. I’m incredibly passionate about women supporting women, and counselling has personally helped me through difficult periods in my life following abusive relationships.

I know how important it is for women to have access to safe spaces, support, and people who truly listen. That’s why raising awareness and funds for this charity means so much to me.

Do you have a specific goal or message you hope to achieve through your fundraising efforts?

My goal is to raise £500 for the charity, but also to help spread awareness of the incredible work they do and the support they provide to women in our community.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our community about your journey or your passion for this cause?

Alongside running, I also run Build Her 360, where I combine my work as a women’s personal trainer and image consultant. I strongly believe in helping women rebuild confidence through fitness, movement, and personal style.

After experiencing a time in my life where my own confidence was at an all-time low, I understand how powerful it can be to feel strong, supported, and comfortable in yourself again. That’s why causes like York Women’s Counselling Service are so important to me; they help women rediscover their confidence, strength, and sense of self.
